Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Anatomage, a health care technology company founded in 2004, is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Santa Clara. The engineer takes ownership of complex, open-ended mechanical projects, working with company leadership and cross-functional teams to turn concepts into functional, manufacturable products. The ideal candidate is hands-on and able to carry a project from concept and design through prototyping, testing, iteration and production.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of mechanical systems, products, components and technologies from concept through production.
• Translate high-level concepts from leadership into practical engineering solutions.
• Develop 3D CAD models, assemblies, detailed drawings, specifications and engineering documentation.
• Own mechanical design decisions on materials, tolerances, component interactions, manufacturability, cost and reliability.
• Design, build, modify and test physical prototypes, and lead iterative design based on test results.
• Evaluate engineering concepts, feasibility studies and design trade-offs, and apply analysis to mechanical, structural, thermal, fluid and other challenges.
• Incorporate design-for-manufacturing principles and work with manufacturing partners and suppliers.
• Work with engineering, manufacturing, product, field service and other teams, and lead design reviews and technical discussions.
• Identify technical risks, mentor other engineers, and communicate design decisions clearly.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 7+ years of professional experience in mechanical design and product development.
• Demonstrated experience taking products from concept through prototype and/or production.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, tolerances and manufacturing processes.
• Hands-on experience building, testing, troubleshooting and iterating physical prototypes.
• Ability to work on ambiguous, open-ended projects and to manage projects and priorities independently.
• Comfortable in a fully on-site, hands-on engineering environment.

Required skills

• Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or similar platforms.
• Experience designing mechanical components, assemblies and mechanisms.
• Preferred: rapid prototyping, 3D printing, machining, CNC, injection molding, sheet metal, electromechanical products, startup environments, mentoring, and a strong design portfolio.
