Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer leads the design and development of specialized load‑handling equipment for heavy lift and transport projects. This role oversees projects from concept through field deployment, ensuring safety, performance and cost‑effectiveness.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design phases from idea generation, concept development, detailed engineering, to production and implementation.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems and ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Oversee fabrication, load testing, and on‑site deployment, providing technical support during critical lifts.
• Mentor junior engineers, review technical documentation, and manage multiple R&D projects, budgets and schedules.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience designing mechanical/structural equipment for heavy‑lift or related industries.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; OSHA 10 certification.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with experience leading design reviews and risk mitigation.
• Excellent communication skills for client interaction and cross‑functional teamwork.

Required skills

• CAD software: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor.
• Finite element and structural analysis tools: ANSYS, Nastran, Abaqus, RISA‑3D.
• Hand calculations, stress/fatigue analysis, material knowledge (steel grades, composites, high‑strength alloys).
• Engineering software: Mathcad, MS Excel, ERP systems.
• Knowledge of industry standards: OSHA, AISC, AWS, ASME B30, ANSI, ASCE‑7.
