Senior Landscape Architect (Landscape Architect III)

About the role

The State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, is hiring one Senior Landscape Architect (Landscape Architect III) in Schaumburg, Illinois. The position is responsible for designing, reviewing, inspecting in the field and ensuring environmental compliance of roadside landscapes and stormwater systems for complex roadway projects in District One. It aims to deliver safe, environmentally compatible, high-quality and low-maintenance highway systems in line with regional policy. The position is full time, salaried, 8:00 AM to 4:15 PM Monday to Friday, with an anticipated hybrid schedule of 1 to 5 days per week in the office.

Key responsibilities

• Review and prepare roadway landscape design plans and review Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), providing subject matter expertise on landscape restoration, tree preservation, native planting and roadside aesthetics.
• Draft comprehensive landscape plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) for landscape construction and maintenance contracts.
• Develop conceptual landscape designs and plant material appraisals for the Bureaus of Programming and Land Acquisition.
• Evaluate and give technical comments on roadside-related permit requests for the Bureaus of Traffic and Bureau of Utilities.
• Serve as technical expert for resident engineers, giving landscape and erosion control guidance during construction.
• Conduct onsite field inspections of vegetation materials (the text is cut off).

Required profile
