Civil Engineer Trainee - District 1

About the role

The State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, is hiring Civil Engineer Trainees for District 1 in Schaumburg, Illinois. This is a full-time permanent entry-level position in the Development and Training - Engineers (DATE) rotation program, which rotates engineers among three of the eight district bureaus for a one-year assignment depending on when they start. The program aims to give engineers varied assignments, on-the-job training and experience in their chosen field. There are 20 vacancies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide accurate measurement, computation and documentation so that work complies with plans, specifications, project reports and other deliverables.
• Keep the supervisor informed of problems encountered or changes made.
• Deliver accurate and timely results to meet the project schedule.
• Ensure inspected items comply with specifications.
• Provide the records and reports needed for project finalization.
• Suggest resolutions to problems encountered during work.

Required profile

• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; the State does not sponsor employment visas.
• Bilingual skills are welcome.
• This is a union position, so the collective bargaining agreement applies.
