Aggregate Inspector (Engineering Technician III)

About the role

The State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, is hiring five Engineering Technician IIIs (Aggregate Inspector) in Schaumburg, Illinois. The position sits in the Office of Highways and Intermodal Project Implementation, Region 1, District 1, Bureau of Materials, and is accountable for inspections, sampling, testing, documentation and reporting so that all aggregate produced by a source meets IDOT requirements, is of good quality and has the specified gradation, in line with the Aggregate Gradation Control System (AGCS) and the Standard Specifications and Special Provisions.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect aggregate material and aggregate sources and monitor plant operation so that the aggregate produced meets the specifications required for each project.
• Maintain complete and accurate material testing records.
• Prepare complete and accurate reports for the Construction and Materials Management System (CMMS) and other reporting systems.
• Observe and verify compliance of aggregate producers with the AGCS program and the Manual for Aggregate Inspection.
• Acquire a working knowledge of inspection and testing procedures, specifications and checklists.
• Be knowledgeable about the production and sampling of recycled concrete and slag aggregates.

Required profile

• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; the State does not sponsor employment visas.
• Bilingual skills are welcome.
• This is a union position, so the collective bargaining agreement applies.

What we offer

• Anticipated starting salary of $4,159 per month, with a range of $4,159 to $7,187 per month.
• Full-time, salaried position, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday to Friday with a 30-minute lunch.
