Area Utilities Technician (Engineering Technician IV)

About the role

The Area Utilities Technician (Engineering Technician IV) is responsible for coordinating the location, relocation, adjustment, and accommodation of public and private utility facilities within an assigned geographic area. The role supports district highway improvement projects and maintenance activities on state highway right‑of‑way.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate review of contract plans and utility, water, and sewer relocation activities to minimize project delays.
• Ensure all utility activities on state‑maintained highways comply with departmental policies, procedures, and specifications.
• Process utility, water, and sewer permits and related technical documentation using departmental databases and digital systems.
• Maintain accurate location, permit, and status information in GIS/CADD resources and related records.

Required profile

• Engineering technical judgment with experience in utility coordination and highway projects.
• Ability to use departmental digital records, tracking systems, GIS, and CADD tools.
• Attention to detail and ability to prepare and negotiate utility reimbursable work agreements.
