Senior Hospital Coder (Remote)

About the role

The Senior Hospital Coder works remotely to accurately code complex inpatient services, ensuring compliance with ICD‑10, CPT and payer guidelines. This position collaborates closely with the Clinical Documentation Improvement team and management to achieve accurate reimbursement and DRG assignment.

Key responsibilities

• Assign ICD‑10 and CPT codes for complex hospital accounts, including concurrent and discharge coding.
• Review medical documentation for data integrity and validate that it supports assigned codes.
• Research patient accounts to resolve coding queries and errors.
• Collaborate with CDI nurses to identify documentation improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Minimum high school diploma; preferred completion of an AHIMA‑accredited coding program.
• At least 3 years of coding experience with a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), RHIA or RHIT certification.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work independently.

Required skills

• Proficiency in ICD‑10, ICD‑9‑CM and CPT coding guidelines.
• Competence with Windows‑based applications and data‑entry software.
