Director of Contracts & Utilization

About the role

The Director of Contracts & Utilization negotiates contracts, ensures compliance, and manages supply utilization across the health system. This senior position drives cost‑reduction initiatives, supports product standardization, and acts as a liaison between procurement leadership and clinical teams.

Key responsibilities

• Review existing contracts, identify expirations, and coordinate renewal decisions with stakeholders.
• Manage communications and clinical literature research to support cost‑effective purchasing.
• Consult with users to identify, analyze, and implement non‑salary expense cost reductions.
• Develop quantitative and qualitative analyses to drive cost‑reduction efforts.
• Assist with new product introductions and overall product change initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• 10 years of purchasing experience in healthcare (or 5 years with a Master’s degree).
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to travel between facilities and work a flexible schedule, including on‑call availability.

Required skills

• Knowledge of MMIS systems and ability to manage a pre‑programmed database.
• Project management and self‑direction for major initiatives.
• Strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
