Senior Finance Analyst, R&D

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Finance Analyst to partner with our R&D and Technology Development teams at Commonwealth Fusion Systems. In this business‑partner role you will translate experimental roadmaps into budgets, monitor spend against milestones, and provide the financial visibility needed for informed decision‑making in a fast‑moving, high‑technology environment.

Key responsibilities

• Build annual budgets and periodic forecasts for R&D cost centres and track actual spending against plans.
• Forecast short‑term cash flows by adjusting amortisation schedules and down‑payments.
• Track project and programme actuals, investigate variances and flag risks early.
• Advise R&D leadership on resource allocation, operating efficiencies and investment risk.
• Own end‑to‑end program and project forecasts, enabling continuous capital re‑allocation.
• Investigate vendor commitments, payment status and maintain master data records.
• Identify and monitor financial risks and opportunities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance or program finance.
• Strong financial modelling skills and advanced proficiency in Excel.
• Ability to communicate clearly with technical stakeholders and translate technical projects into financial data.
• Detail‑oriented, organized and comfortable working with incomplete information in a fast‑moving environment.
