Senior Embedded Software Engineer

About the role

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design, implement, and verify software and controls for advanced R&D equipment and complex machinery. You will be a hands‑on technical contributor, writing production‑ready code for mission‑critical real‑time systems and translating customer requirements into robust software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop control software across multiple platforms, including real‑time Linux, microcontrollers, and FPGAs.
• Verify embedded software using hardware‑in‑the‑loop testbeds and conduct field commissioning activities.
• Improve software tooling and processes to increase developer velocity and enable new capabilities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience with embedded, real‑time control systems and production‑quality control software.
• Proven experience with modern software development lifecycle practices (CI/CD, Git, unit testing, integration testing).
• Proficiency in Python and at least one real‑time control language such as C++ or Rust.
