Senior Data and Operations Software Engineer

About the role

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Data and Operations Software Engineer to join its Data and Operations Software group. You will design and implement backend services that enable data acquisition, access, and processing for fusion research, collaborating closely with physicists and engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop distributed systems and services for data acquisition, access, and processing.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code in Golang.
• Create a user‑friendly Python client library.
• Collaborate with physicists, diagnosticians, and engineers to translate user stories into code.
• Optimize backend performance to improve data ingestion, retrieval, and processing times.
• Support the collection, retrieval, and analysis of data from simulations and experiments.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of relevant experience as a backend software engineer.
• Proven experience building distributed systems and REST APIs.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative, innovative environment.
