Senior Developer I - Data Engineer
nb · New York
Job description
About the role
Neuberger Berman's Private Markets Technology group is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to design and scale the data infrastructure supporting its private equity and private debt strategies. The role sits at the intersection of data engineering and investment operations, working with fund administration, operations and analytics teams to model, move and govern data across a complex, multi-administrator environment. The data comes from GP notices, fund administrators, data rooms and bespoke workflows rather than exchange feeds.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and optimize data models in the data warehouse for analytics, reporting and operational workloads, turning workflows such as capital calls, distributions and co-investment closings into reusable datasets.
- Build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest and normalize data from multiple fund administrators with inconsistent booking conventions.
- Implement data quality checks, monitoring and alerting to ensure data reliability and accuracy.
- Collaborate with users and developers to deliver well-modeled, accessible datasets.
- Optimize query performance, pipeline throughput and storage costs.
- Contribute to data governance: documentation, lineage tracking, cataloging, access controls and golden record ownership.
- Leverage AI to drive efficient coding and process design.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems or a related field.
- 7+ years of professional experience in data engineering, building and maintaining production data pipelines.
- Financial markets data domain experience; private markets data experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated fluency with AI tools such as co-pilot tools, LLM-assisted development or AI-augmented data workflows.
- Hybrid work in New York City, with a minimum of two days per week in the office; right to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Required skills
- Advanced SQL and dimensional data modeling (star schema, snowflake schema).
- Python and data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Pandas or Polars.
- Apache Airflow and hands-on experience with orchestration tools.
- Snowflake and cloud services (AWS or Azure).
- dbt and version-controlled analytics workflows.
- Git, CI/CD, testing and containerization.
- Preferred: Kafka streaming, data contracts and schema evolution, OpenShift, and normalizing data across similar datasets.
What we offer
- Salary range of $130,000-$170,000, with eligibility for a discretionary bonus.
- Paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, retirement, life insurance and other benefits.
