Senior Cybersecurity Engineer (Remote)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to lead security engineering, architecture, and compliance for a large federal government healthcare modernization project. This 100% remote position supports the U.S. Census Bureau environment and requires occasional travel to the Washington, DC area.

Key responsibilities

• Define and lead security architecture, engineering standards, and verification practices across complex enterprise environments.
• Provide technical direction to ISSO and ISSE teams, overseeing ATO, System Security Plan, continuous monitoring, and Zero Trust compliance.
• Lead risk assessments, vulnerability management, and security‑control assessments in Agile, DevSecOps, and cloud settings.
• Design and guide static and dynamic application security testing, penetration testing, and remediation in collaboration with development teams.
• Communicate security requirements, risks, and remediation recommendations to government and cross‑functional stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Cybersecurity or related field (or equivalent experience) with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
• Minimum five years leading large security‑engineering, ISSO or ISSE teams and holding a current CISSP certification.
• U.S. citizenship, ability to pass background check and obtain a Government/Public Trust clearance.

Required skills

• Experience with ATOs, System Security Plans, Zero Trust, continuous monitoring, NIST RMF, NIST SP 800‑53, FISMA, FedRAMP.
• Hands‑on expertise in cloud security, DevSecOps, Agile/Scrum/SAFe environments.
• Application security testing, penetration testing, encryption, PKI, incident response, defense‑in‑depth architectures.
• Strong knowledge of access control, communication protocols, and vulnerability analysis.
