Senior Care Unit RN - Night Shift

About the role

Appling Healthcare is hiring a Registered Nurse for its Senior Care Unit (SCU) in Baxley, working nights under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse. The nurse assists in the daily care of patients by assessing their needs and helping implement their treatment plans.

Key responsibilities

• Manage patients in group settings using milieu management principles, run health teaching groups, document progress and organize patient activities during unprogrammed time.
• Maintain professional boundaries with patients, support colleagues in keeping them and report boundary violations to the supervisor.
• Keep documentation complete and accurate in line with facility standards and regulatory requirements, and write legibly with approved abbreviations.
• Complete nursing assessments of new patients promptly, begin the treatment plan on admission and review physician orders for completeness and accuracy.
• Respect patient dignity, communicate non-judgmentally about behaviour, follow the philosophy of unconditional positive regard and understand family dynamics.
• Record and report on patients requiring special precautions, assign mental health treatments as needed and follow policies on seclusion and restraint.
• De-escalate crises directly and safely, including the use of timeouts, locked seclusion or restraints, and lead a crisis team within the milieu.
• Administer psychotropic medications according to hospital policy, knowing side effects and therapeutic effects, and help patients with illegal and addictive drug use.
• Take part in the multidisciplinary treatment team, help set measurable goals and nursing interventions, and report on patients at shift change.

Required profile

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Current license as a registered nurse in the State of Georgia.
• New hires must obtain CPR, ACLS and CPI certifications within 90 days of hire.
