Senior Batch Automation Engineer

About the role

Matrix Technologies is seeking a Senior Batch Automation Engineer to design, configure, test, commission, and support batch control solutions for manufacturing clients across multiple industries.

Key responsibilities

• Develop functional specifications, control narratives, batch design documents, and test plans based on client requirements.
• Design, configure, and support ISA‑88‑based batch solutions, including recipes, unit procedures, phases, equipment modules, and exception handling.
• Lead software development and testing activities such as design reviews, code reviews, Factory Acceptance Tests, Site Acceptance Tests, commissioning, and start‑up support.
• Troubleshoot batch execution issues, recipe configuration problems, control logic defects, and integration issues across PLC, DCS, SCADA, and batch management systems.
• Mentor less‑experienced engineers and provide technical guidance to project teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Computer, Controls Engineering or related field from an ABET‑accredited institution.
• Minimum six years of controls, automation, electrical troubleshooting, and start‑up experience, with senior‑level batch automation experience.
• Ability to travel 15‑25% locally and overnight.
• Legal eligibility to work in the United States.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with ISA‑88 batch concepts, recipe management, and procedural control.
• Proficiency with batch platforms such as Rockwell FactoryTalk Batch, PlantPAx, Siemens SIMATIC BATCH, AVEVA/Wonderware.
• Experience with PLC/DCS platforms (Allen‑Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens) and HMI/SCADA systems (FactoryTalk View, Ignition, WinCC).
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols: Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC DA/UA.
• Familiarity with historian integration, MES, SQL databases, and cybersecurity considerations for control networks.
