Senior Backend Engineer (Golang & AI Automation)

About the role

EQL Edtech is recruiting on behalf of its partner client, a high-growth seed-stage Seattle startup that turns simple video recordings into fully automated workflows using AI. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will act as the CTO's architectural right hand, defining how the platform scales, how AI integrates with the backend and how infrastructure handles complex, event-driven tasks. The position is full-time, hybrid or remote within the US, with a salary of $140,000-$180,000 per year.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services end to end, primarily in Golang (some Python), prioritizing scalability and reliability.
• Design and evolve APIs and integration logic, balancing rapid iteration with robust, maintainable systems.
• Lead infrastructure-as-code with Terraform on AWS/ECS, including performance, security and deployment pipeline decisions.
• Partner with the founding team on AI-driven features and distributed architectures, including event-driven systems such as Temporal.

Required profile

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Proven track record of large-scale APIs, microservices or event-driven systems in a B2B SaaS environment.
• History of owning complex projects from concept to deployment and translating business goals into technical solutions.

Required skills

• Deep Golang proficiency (Python highly preferred).
• Terraform and AWS (ECS, Lambda).
• CI/CD pipelines.
• Event-driven systems such as Temporal is a major plus.
