Staff Engineer, Electrical Integration & Test

About the role

Shield AI is a defense-tech company developing intelligent systems such as aircraft and autonomy software. Its Integration Test Engineering team designs custom electrical and mechanical test systems for the X-BAT aircraft. As a Staff Engineer (Senior Integration Engineer) on the Test team, you will own the design and development of test systems, from specifying software and hardware architecture to writing code and designing circuits for custom interfaces.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, validation and deployment of test systems for X-BAT's critical components and subsystems.
• Architect test framework software and test interfaces for power electronics, compute complex and communication systems.
• Build and maintain scalable test infrastructure and shared libraries, promoting modularity and reusability.
• Automate system provisioning and configuration management.
• Develop real-time monitoring and data visualization tools (e.g. Grafana).
• Lead and take part in design and code reviews, and drive design-for-testability improvements.
• Balance exhaustive testing with sufficient checks as the product matures.
• Validate performance with HASS, ESS and HALT testing in simulated harsh environments.
• Mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related STEM field.
• 3+ years of industry experience in software design and test engineering (or equivalent with advanced degrees).
• Deep expertise in electrical, mechanical and software engineering principles applied to system test infrastructure.
• Proven track record of owning projects from concept to execution.

Required skills

• Linux, including Bash scripting and networking.
• Ability to configure and maintain small computer networks.
• Preferred: comfort with hardware, driver writing for test equipment, and PCB/CAD tools (Altium, KiCAD, Eagle, SolidWorks, NX, CATIA).
• Preferred: experience with Stell, JAMA, DOORS or similar requirements frameworks, and in aerospace, defense or automotive.
