Ground System Full Stack Software Engineer (R4787)

About the role

Shield AI, a venture-backed defense-tech company, is looking for a Ground System Software Engineer to design, develop and maintain software for the X-BAT Platform. The role builds ground control stations, mission planning tools, communication interfaces and infrastructure that support safe and efficient drone operations, working closely with the Aircraft Software, Hivemind and Flight Test teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimize ground control software enabling low-latency communication with UAVs and other autonomous platforms.
• Build high-performance full-stack applications for telemetry processing and fusion, mission planning and real-time situational awareness.
• Implement responsive user interfaces with React and TypeScript for telemetry readout, sensor feeds, operator workflows and mission/vehicle state.
• Collaborate with autonomy, embedded systems, human factors and UX teams to deliver field-ready solutions.
• Contribute to architecture and system design, and lead or take part in feature development from early design through deployment.
• Write well-tested code and take part in peer design and code reviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics or a related field with 5+ years of experience (Masters 4+, PhD 2+); Staff level requires 7+ years (Masters 6+, PhD 4+); Senior Staff 9+ years (Masters 8+, PhD 6+).
• Experience building distributed systems or networked applications and user interfaces.
• Ability to obtain security clearance.
• Speed and proficiency without Generative AI tools, which are prohibited.

Required skills

• Strongly typed languages such as C#, TypeScript, Java or C++, with exposure to lower-level systems or protocol integration.
• React, TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js.
• Version control, testing, debugging and performance profiling.
• Preferred: GCS software, REST/gRPC, WebSocket, STANAG 4586, CoT, MAVLink, Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD, and embedded cybersecurity experience.
