Senior Attorney – Office of Juvenile Justice

About the role

The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice is seeking a senior legal professional to lead its most complex legal matters. As Attorney 4, you will provide expert counsel to agency leadership, represent the department in litigation and administrative hearings, and shape high‑level policy.

Key responsibilities

• Lead internal disciplinary processes, including reviewing investigative reports, drafting disciplinary letters, and representing OJJ in Civil Service hearings and appeals.
• Represent the Deputy Secretary in complex litigation before federal, state, and city courts; prepare motions, pleadings, briefs, and appellate work.
• Interview staff, youth, and witnesses; provide legal guidance to regional offices and facilities.
• Review criminal records of prospective detention‑center employees.
• Analyze and interpret legislation affecting the agency; serve on relevant committees.
• Act as Ethics Liaison and provide assistance to other agency attorneys.
• Conduct training on disciplinary processes and other assigned duties.

Required profile

• Current Louisiana license to practice law.
• Minimum three years of experience as a practicing attorney.
• Demonstrated ability to handle complex litigation and policy development.
• Strong analytical, research, and written communication skills.
