Scientist II – ML Guided Protein Design Evaluation

About the role

Profluent, a frontier AI lab focused on biology, is expanding its Machine Learning Design Evaluation (MDE) program. We seek a Scientist II to bridge machine‑learning model needs with experimental protein design workflows, ensuring high‑quality data that directly improves our protein design models.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with ML and Protein Design leads to define campaign scope, target selection, assay choices, and required readouts.
• Establish assay readiness levels, controls, and QC criteria; enforce them across internal teams and external CROs.
• Review incoming biochemical, biophysical, and NGS‑based data for scientific soundness before inclusion in the data warehouse.
• Collaborate with Bioinformatics to design metadata schemas and ensure consistent, queryable datasets.
• Act as the scientific liaison for CRO technical scoping, evaluating platform suitability for ML‑guided optimization.
• Contribute to campaign charters, benchmark assay designs, and translate experimental results into a growing institutional dataset.
• Represent the MDE program in cross‑functional technical forums and help raise data‑quality standards.

Required profile

• Deep expertise in therapeutic antibody development and protein engineering.
• Strong background in ML‑guided protein design and experimental assay development.
• Hands‑on experience with internal assay execution and CRO collaborations.
• Ability to translate model requirements into practical experimental designs and vice‑versa.
