Roadway Project Engineer

About the role

Volkert is seeking an experienced Roadway Project Engineer to join its Southwest Region team. The position supports transportation and civil design projects across Texas, working from one of several office locations.

Key responsibilities

• Calculate plan quantities, develop engineering estimates, and prepare construction specifications.
• Lead or assist in project design development, directing engineers and designers to meet client‑focused objectives.
• Prepare and modify reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and design documents.
• Collaborate with sub‑consultants, ensure best practices, and attend team meetings.
• Perform detailed engineering assignments, including calculations and data reconciliation.
• Maintain adherence to phase schedules, budgets, and quality standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 8–12 years of relevant roadway design experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
• Proven ability to meet DOT expectations, schedules, and budgets.
• Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory motor vehicle report.
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screening.

Required skills

• Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer.
• Experience with DOT design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications.
