RN Specialist – Medical Emergency Team

About the role

The RN Specialist on the Medical Emergency Team (MET) provides proactive nursing care, rapid response, and critical assessment for patients at Akron General Medical Center. Working nights, the RN collaborates with providers and the MET team to improve patient outcomes and reduce ICU transfers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct proactive rounding on inpatient units to identify acute patient issues and communicate findings to providers.
• Respond to rapid response and code blue calls, delivering critical care until patients are stable or transferred.
• Enter cases into quality data tools, review events, and present findings to the Critical Response and Resuscitation Committee (CRRC).
• Lead process improvement initiatives and provide education/training for nursing staff on emergency response and equipment use.

Required profile

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program with current RN licensure.
• Minimum two years of nursing practice in a complex critical care environment.
• Certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS (or obtain PALS within one year of hire).
• NIHSS certification and experience with simulation and orientation of MET RN specialists.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• NIHSS certification.
• Ultrasound‑guided IV placement.
• Operation of Zoll defibrillator and patient monitor.
