RN Pre/Post Surgery - Outpatient Surgery Center

About the role

AdventHealth is hiring a Registered Nurse for pre- and post-operative care at its outpatient surgery center in Hendersonville, North Carolina. The nurse works the day shift, full time, in the PACU and supports patients before and after surgery.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients on arrival to the PACU, including respiratory status, oxygen saturation, vital signs, dressings, Foley and drain output, and heart rhythms.
• Respond immediately to life-threatening situations according to PACU protocol and report significant changes in condition to anesthesia, the head nurse, charge nurse or surgeon.
• Implement the plan of care to help patients return to the outpatient area or surgical floor unit.
• Administer medications correctly and document patient responses to medications and nursing care in the EMR.
• Communicate complete patient information when handing off care to other healthcare workers.
• Monitor the electronic medical record for new physician orders and diagnostic results, and perform Real Time Scanning duties accurately and efficiently.
• Maintain a clean, safe and well-stocked nursing unit free of safety hazards by the end of the shift.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
• Associate's degree in nursing required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• More than 1 year of RN experience with surgical patients required.
• Experience in ICU or recovery preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS certifications required; PALS preferred.
