Revenue Tax Auditor – Field Audit Sales Tax Division

About the role

The Louisiana Department of Revenue seeks a Revenue Tax Auditor to join its Field Audit Sales Tax Division. The role involves conducting complex tax audits across the state and nationwide, ensuring compliance with Louisiana tax laws while providing high‑quality customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Perform in‑state and out‑of‑state field audits of complex businesses and corporations to verify compliance with Louisiana tax laws.
• Coordinate audits for a wide range of tax types, including corporate income, franchise, personal income, sales/use, severance, fuel, tobacco, natural gas and others.
• Examine financial statements, accounting records, tax reports and operational processes of large national and international corporations to determine correct tax liability.
• Travel to metropolitan areas across the United States to conduct examinations of the most complex taxpayers.

Required profile

• Three years of experience in tax accounting or tax auditing, OR six years of full‑time experience in any field plus 24 semester hours in accounting, OR a bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in accounting, OR a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics or statistics, OR an advanced degree in a related field, OR a CPA license or a current Louisiana law license.
• Ability to substitute academic credits for experience as described in the posting.

Required skills
