Restaurant Cook

About the role

Loews Kansas City Hotel, an 800-room property connected to the Kansas City Convention Center, is hiring a Restaurant Cook. The team supports 60,000 square feet of event space, dining outlets, an indoor lap pool and a downtown location near Power & Light, T-Mobile Center and the Streetcar.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and organize the work area with all necessary supplies and equipment
• Receive, inspect and rotate food products to ensure fresh, high-quality ingredients
• Prepare and store raw food products properly, following standardized recipes and portion-control guidelines to minimize waste
• Plate foods according to presentation guidelines and serve them promptly, notifying the supervisor of delays
• Follow governmental food sanitation standards, monitor refrigeration and holding temperatures, and keep work surfaces clean and sanitized
• Use knives, slicers, mixers, choppers and grinders safely, and report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor
• Notify stewards of dish and pot needs, return utensils to the pot wash area and clean up at the end of each shift
• Complete closing tasks, turn off cooking equipment and secure the kitchen
• Work as a team member, follow safety and hotel policies, attend training and meetings, and comply with uniform and grooming standards

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Three years of cooking experience in an upscale, high-volume hotel or freestanding restaurant, or post-secondary culinary training/certification as "Cook" with two years of hands-on experience
• Knowledge of food service sanitation standards and standard kitchen equipment
• Able to stand, stoop, bend and lift up to 50 pounds
• English reading, writing and speaking ability
• Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
