Respiratory Therapist

About the role

The Respiratory Therapist at Phelps Health provides life‑saving respiratory care to patients, assessing, implementing and evaluating treatment plans while adhering to professional ethics.

Key responsibilities

• Administer respiratory treatments and continuously monitor patient responses.
• Document patient care accurately according to hospital policies.
• Maintain certifications, licensure and competencies without lapse.
• Communicate patient information to the healthcare team to improve outcomes.
• Participate in departmental projects and assist with orientation of new staff and students.

Required profile

• Graduate of a CoARC‑approved Respiratory Care Program.
• One year of respiratory experience preferred.
• Licensed by the state of Missouri as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
• Active credentialing by the National Board of Respiratory Care highly preferred.
• Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications.

Required skills

• Administration of pharmacological, diagnostic and therapeutic agents within the respiratory scope of practice.
• Use of respiratory monitoring equipment and assessment tools.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and patient safety protocols.
