Research Scientist – Faculty (Public Health)

About the role

The School of Public and Allied Health at Prairie View A&M University seeks an accomplished Research Scientist to lead applied and translational public‑health research. The position involves securing external funding, publishing high‑impact work, and mentoring students while engaging with community partners.

Key responsibilities

• Design and conduct independent and collaborative research on epidemiology, health promotion, chronic disease prevention, behavioral health, or community‑engaged topics.
• Develop competitive grant proposals for federal, state, foundation, or industry funding.
• Publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
• Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, as well as junior scientists.
• Build partnerships with community organizations and public‑health agencies to advance research initiatives.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Public Health, Epidemiology, Population Health, Environmental Health, Health Promotion, Health Data Analytics, or a closely related field.
• At least six years of research experience in public health or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly publications and success in obtaining external research funding.

Required skills

• Proficiency with data‑analysis software such as SAS, SPSS, R, or STATA.
• Knowledge of epidemiological and biostatistical methods and research design.
