Research Coordinator

About the role

NEXT Oncology, an Avacare business, is hiring a Research Coordinator in Houston. The coordinator advocates for patient safety and protocol integrity, helps screen patients, schedules them and oversees on-study requirements, and attends study teleconferences with sponsors and clinical research organizations. The role sits within a clinical research environment focused on oncology.

Key responsibilities

• Protocol compliance: identify study objectives and outcomes, follow federal, state and institutional regulations and NEXT Oncology SOPs, communicate with the interdisciplinary team, support study drug accountability, educate clinical staff, and report serious adverse events and deviations to the IRB and sponsor
• Informed consent: remove barriers to consent, use the current IRB-approved consent form, confirm consent before any study task, and handle tiered consent for optional correlative studies
• Patient management: assess eligibility, educate patients and families, coordinate study visits and procedures, evaluate adherence and disease response, and manage symptoms according to the protocol
• Documentation: record patient encounters in the medical record, obtain source documents, maintain study files and protect patient confidentiality
• Data management: follow the data management plan, enter data accurately into CRFs and electronic data capture, troubleshoot data entry issues, and respond to database queries

Required profile

• Knowledge of standard research and oncology care practices
• Typically 5 or more years of experience
• Bachelor's degree required for non-RNs; Registered Nurses need a current Texas or Virginia license
• Oncology clinical trial and research coordination experience preferred
