Ophthalmic Assistant I/II/III

About the role

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, part of the Optum family of businesses, is hiring an Ophthalmic Assistant (levels I, II or III) at its Main Campus in Houston, Texas. The assistant provides direct patient care to patients seen in the Optometry or Ophthalmology departments and ensures the safety and comfort of patients and families according to legal, organizational and professional standards. The level (OA I or OA II) depends on years of experience and certification.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to patients seen in the Optometry or Ophthalmology departments
• Ensure the safety and comfort of patients and families according to legal, organizational and professional standards

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association
• 1+ year of previous Medical Assistant or Optometric/Ophthalmic Assistant experience if not a graduate of an approved Medical/Ophthalmic Assistant program, or 6 months of experience and graduation from such a program
• CRT experience
• Preferred: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Ophthalmic Technician; 2+ years of work experience under an ophthalmologist; 1+ year and 6+ months of ophthalmology experience

Required skills

• Able to use equipment and supplies for the selected patient population
• Preferred: scribing, portable tonopen, Goldman VF, fundus photography, fluorescein angiogram, immersion IOL, NCT, autorefractor, lensometer and K-readings
• Preferred: Windows-based computer skills

• Hourly pay of $18-$36 for full-time employment, depending on factors such as education, experience and certifications
