Registered Nurse – Med Surge Unit (5B)

About the role

The Registered Nurse on the Med Surge Unit (5B) provides professional nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation for designated patients. The role involves direct patient management, interdisciplinary collaboration and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for assigned patients, coordinating with physicians and the interdisciplinary team.
• Provide patient and family education throughout the treatment course to ensure effective transitions of care.
• Participate in evidence‑based practice, performance improvement processes and unit safety initiatives.
• Teach, mentor and precept new colleagues and interns, delegating tasks based on skill level and patient acuity.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with current RN licensure in Pennsylvania.
• Successful completion of unit orientation and maintenance of unit‑specific competencies.
• Ability to organize, prioritize assignments and perform physical tasks such as lifting 40‑50 lb and standing for long periods.
• Basic computer proficiency and BLS certification upon hire.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association.
• Basic computer skills for documentation and technology use.
