Regional Educational Laboratory Southeast Deputy Director

About the role

FHI 360 is seeking a Deputy Director to support the Project Director of a multi‑state education research initiative in the Southeast United States. The role provides day‑to‑day oversight of technical and operational management for a regional research center, ensuring that research activities are timely, integrated, and aligned with stakeholder expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate research partnerships and projects across the Southern region, ensuring strong communication among technical teams, partners, and subcontractors.
• Manage daily center operations, track deliverables, milestones, staffing, and reporting requirements, and prepare annual work plans and contract deliverables.
• Provide technical guidance on project implementation, stakeholder engagement, and evidence use; review research and dissemination products for quality and usability.
• Participate in meetings with the Contracting Officer Representative and federal partners, and represent FHI 360 in stakeholder meetings and conferences.
• Supervise project staff and consultants, support onboarding and mentoring, and foster collaboration across distributed teams.

Required profile

• Master’s degree required (PhD preferred) in education, public policy, social sciences, or a related field.
• Based in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, or Alabama.
• Minimum 8 years of experience supporting education research, technical assistance, or education systems strengthening initiatives.
• Proven experience managing complex, multi‑stakeholder projects and coordinating education‑focused technical assistance.
• Strong organizational, project management, and communication abilities.
