Recreational Therapist

About the role

The Recreational Therapist will support adult and geriatric patients at Marymount Hospital by delivering therapeutic activities that enhance social, cognitive, physical and emotional skills. The role involves both group and individual sessions across a range of diagnoses.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, conduct and coordinate evidence‑based therapeutic programming in group and individual settings.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, attend conferences, and train nursing staff on therapeutic activities.
• Complete functional assessments within 24 hours of admission and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Educate patients, families and caregivers on skills needed for discharge and community living.
• Document services per hospital policy, manage equipment budget, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy from an accredited program.
• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or obtain within 90 days of hire).
• WELLE (Crisis Intervention) training within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter.
• Physical ability to assist patients with mobility and exercise activities.
