Radiofrequency Engineer (RF) - Space Communications

About the role

Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) is looking for a Radiofrequency Engineer (RF) to support radio frequency analysis, simulation and development of space-based RF communication systems. The work covers inter-operability integration across multiple US Government customers, including the Moon Base Utilities and Infrastructure Group and the Deep Space Communications Network. Active security clearance is required.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze existing transmitter, receiver and antenna designs
• Take part in requirements and data reviews, giving input and comments
• Support test campaigns in internal and external laboratories
• Support and run RF subsystem trade studies
• Perform link margin analyses using various modulation protocols and environmental influences
• Write or collaborate on communication system design and analysis reports
• Run project milestone reviews and technical meetings with customers and stakeholders
• Perform RF interference and RF compatibility analyses
• Mentor early-career and internship engineers

Required profile

• US citizen with an active security clearance or the ability to obtain one
• Degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited university
• 15+ years of experience in antenna and RF systems design, test and evaluation (Ph.D. with 4+ years, MS with 8+ years, or BS with 10-15 years)
• Office environment, with occasional domestic travel (5%) and long hours at a computer

Required skills

• Visual Basic, MathCAD and/or MATLAB
• ANSYS HFSS
• GPS/GNSS simulators
• PNT and communication waveform analyzers (BPSK, QAM, QPSK)
