Psychiatric Crisis Specialist I & II – Night Shift

About the role

The Psychiatric Crisis Specialist provides critical behavioral health assessment, intervention, and care coordination for patients presenting to Cleveland Clinic Emergency Departments during night hours. Working on the Behavioral Health Intake team, you will help ensure safe, timely disposition and support multidisciplinary collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Complete comprehensive mental status, psychosocial, risk, and substance‑use assessments to identify crisis needs.
• Provide crisis intervention using evidence‑based therapeutic techniques and document care plans.
• Coordinate patient flow, insurance verification, and placement—including inpatient admission or community wrap‑around services.
• Educate patients, families, and staff on de‑escalation, behavioral health, and discharge planning.
• Participate in clinical supervision, orientation of new team members, and ongoing education.

Required profile

• BA/BS/MA/MS or MEd in a health‑related field; licensure as LSW, LPC, LCDC‑III, or RN.
• Minimum two years of post‑master’s work experience or clinical internship.
• Knowledge of DSM/ICD, Ohio Revised Code, mental illness, substance use, and community resources.
• Ability to work night shift (9 pm – 7:30 am) and perform required physical tasks.
