Propulsion Systems Engineering Director

About the role

Moog’s Space and Defense Group is seeking a Propulsion Systems Engineering Director to lead the engineering organization of its Propulsion Business Unit in Buffalo, NY. The role reports to the Business Unit General Manager and is responsible for engineering strategy, execution, and workforce planning across current and future space propulsion programs.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the engineering strategy, budget, capital forecasting, and resource allocation for all propulsion business segments.
• Lead talent initiatives including recruitment, development, performance management, succession planning, mentoring and coaching.
• Oversee engineering operations, IRAD investments, process improvement, and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Ensure delivery of innovative, high‑quality technical solutions that meet customer requirements while maintaining product integrity, reliability, safety and lifecycle sustainability.
• Drive a culture of engineering excellence, collaboration, accountability and innovation, and serve as a change leader within the Business Unit.
• Establish and monitor performance metrics, KPIs and tiered management processes to resolve escalated issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems or Software Engineering; Master’s or MBA preferred.
• 15+ years leading multi‑disciplined engineering teams, including internal R&D initiatives.
• 7+ years in progressive leadership roles with experience in strategy execution, lean techniques and continuous improvement.
• Proven ability to make facilitative, consensus‑driven decisions and influence internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong business acumen with experience taking products through development to production.
