Project Engineer / Estimator (Low Voltage Cabling)

About the role

ABcom, a national low voltage commercial structured cabling contractor, is recruiting an Estimator to support its sales activities in commercial, data center and other critical markets. The Project Engineer/Estimator works with the sales team on site visits, design, sales engineering, takeoffs, bills of material, estimates and proposals, and reports to the VP of Operations.

Key responsibilities

• Keep up to date on competition, market conditions, building codes and industry standards.
• Present a professional image with vendors, manufacturers, distributors and customers, and build customer relationships and referrals.
• Work with sales and project management teams to engineer accurate bills of materials and cost estimates for new construction and retrofit jobs.
• Develop and present proposals that meet company gross profit standards and help close sales.
• Hand off closed sales to Operations and coordinate with project managers for on-time, high-quality delivery.
• Coordinate with Operations on forecasted product, equipment and manpower needs, and help resolve job-related issues.
• Travel and work some evenings and nights; reliable auto transportation and an insurable driving record are required.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent education and experience.
• Two years' experience in low-voltage structured cabling for end-users, developers and general contractors.
• Valid driver's license with a vehicle in good repair; industry-recognized certification such as RCDD preferred.
• Ability to perform occasional physical labor such as lifting, bending and pulling.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD and Accubid, or equivalent.
• Understanding of BICSI installation and safety standards and information transport system technologies.
