Fire Alarm Designer/Engineer/Estimator

About the role

ABcom, a national low voltage commercial structured cabling contractor, is recruiting a fire alarm Project Engineer / Estimator to support its sales activities in commercial, medical, MDU, government and other critical markets. The role reports to the VP of Operations and works alongside other engineers, account executives and project managers.

Key responsibilities

• Support the sales team with site visits, design, sales engineering, takeoffs, bills of material, estimates and proposal formation.
• Coordinate proposal activities, scheduling and communications, procure equipment and place product orders.
• Deliver high-quality estimates and proposals that meet company gross profit requirements and help close sales.
• Provide standard handoffs to Operations for closed sales and coordinate with project managers for on-time, high-quality delivery.
• Forecast product, equipment and manpower needs and help resolve job-related issues.
• Stay current on competition, market conditions, building codes and industry standards, and present a professional image with vendors, manufacturers, distributors and customers.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years of experience in commercial fire alarm system design, installation or maintenance for end-users, developers and general contractors.
• Valid driver's license with a vehicle in good repair; travel and evening or night work required, with reliable transport.
• NICET and RCDD certifications preferred.

Required skills

• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA and IBC codes and general understanding of fire alarm systems.
• Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD and Accubid, or equivalent.
