Professor & Vice Chair for Research, Clinical Physical Therapy

About the role

The University of Miami seeks a senior faculty member to lead research initiatives and oversee the PhD program in Clinical Physical Therapy. Reporting to the Department Chair, the incumbent will serve as Vice Chair for Research, balancing teaching, scholarship, and administrative duties.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and develop the PhD in Physical Therapy program, including admissions, curriculum design, student progression, and reporting.
• Teach courses across the entry‑level DPT, post‑professional residency/fellowship, and PhD curricula, covering research methods, clinical sciences, and foundational sciences.
• Secure extramural grant funding both individually and as part of collaborative research teams.
• Conduct scholarly research in physical therapy clinical sciences and publish findings.
• Advise and mentor DPT and PhD students, providing academic and career guidance.
• Participate in departmental, school, and university service and governance activities.
• Supervise PhD candidates, post‑doctoral trainees, and laboratory staff.

Required profile

• Earned doctorate (PhD) in a field relevant to Physical Therapy; post‑doctoral training preferred.
• Proven record of peer‑reviewed research publications in physical therapy.
• Demonstrated success obtaining extramural research funding.
• University‑level teaching experience in DPT and PhD programs.
• Experience mentoring and advising graduate students.
• Eligibility for Physical Therapy licensure in Florida.
