Development Associate

About the role

The University of Miami’s Division of Development and Alumni Relations is seeking a full‑time Development Associate to support fundraising for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. The role focuses on building and nurturing relationships with mid‑level donors and assisting senior leadership in advancing major gift initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Development & Alumni Relations team to execute a multi‑faceted development plan.
• Manage a portfolio of mid‑level prospects ($1,000‑$10,000 annual giving) and track engagement.
• Lead research to identify current donors with potential to increase giving.
• Identify and elevate prospective major‑gift donors ($50K+) to philanthropy officers or the planned giving team.
• Partner with digital engagement teams to source mid‑level prospects from direct‑mail campaigns.
• Create and implement communication plans that meaningfully steward donors.
• Coordinate events and activities that cultivate major donor interest.
• Document all contacts, communications, visits, and proposals in i‑BIS and related systems.

Required profile

• Experience managing donor relationships or fundraising portfolios.
• Strong research and analytical abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple university units.
