Professor of Practice – Spanish (Non‑tenure Track)

About the role
The Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of Houston is seeking a non‑tenure‑track Professor of Practice in Spanish for the academic year Fall 2026–Spring 2027. The appointment combines 75% teaching with 25% administrative and service duties, supporting the growth and sustainability of the undergraduate Spanish program.
Key responsibilities
- Teach face‑to‑face undergraduate Spanish courses ranging from introductory to advanced levels (typical 4‑4 load with two course releases per semester).
- Coordinate with language program instructors and contribute to curriculum development, assessment, and program improvement.
- Mentor students, assist with recruitment and retention initiatives, and support student success efforts.
- Participate in departmental service activities and collaborate with faculty, staff, and university units.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or a closely related field.
- Minimum three years of college‑level Spanish teaching experience, preferably in both second‑language and heritage‑language contexts.
- Strong organizational abilities and capacity to work effectively in a team environment.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; willingness to reside in Texas for the appointment duration.
