Production Engineer (IC4)

About the role

Ontrac Solutions is looking for a Production Engineer (IC4) to lead large‑scale OS modernization and infrastructure hardening for an enterprise client. The role blends hands‑on software development with operational support, working closely with the client’s SRE team and internal engineering groups.

Key responsibilities

• Drive migration of legacy systems to modern enterprise Linux (RHEL7 → EL8/EL9) and manage RPM packaging migrations from Chef to CINC.
• Develop and maintain Python tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and automated runbooks for repeatable migrations.
• Provide Tier‑2 on‑call support, incident response, and break/fix operations under a follow‑the‑sun model.
• Transition monitoring and logging stacks to modern solutions (Chronosphere, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk) and onboard services with metrics, dashboards, and alerts.
• Document migration procedures, runbooks, and package ownership details.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong Python development.
• Hands‑on experience with enterprise Linux fleet upgrades and OS migration at scale.
• Proven ability to own and resolve bugs end‑to‑end without hand‑holding.
• Experience providing Tier‑2 operational support and on‑call rotation.
• U.S. work authorization and residence in the United States.
