Product Engineer - Waterworks Fittings

About the role

Tyler Union, a division of McWane, Inc., manufactures and distributes ductile iron fittings, joint restraints and valve boxes for the waterworks industry. The Product Engineer supports the design, development, testing and continuous improvement of the trugrip product line and related components, working hands-on with Operations, Foundry, Quality and Sales. The position is salaried and based in Anniston.

Key responsibilities

• Create and update 3D models, engineering drawings and specifications for true grip products and related components
• Assist with tooling design, simulation, dimensional analysis and manufacturability improvements
• Support engineering reviews, product modifications and engineering change processes
• Run root-cause analysis on field issues, customer complaints and quality concerns
• Carry out product validation tests, dimensional checks and performance evaluations, and prepare test reports
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards (XYZ) and assist with third-party testing, certification reviews and audits
• Work with Foundry and Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and Procurement, and provide technical product support to Sales and customers
• Maintain engineering schedules, documentation for new product introductions and organized design files and test data

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Materials Engineering or a related field
• 2-5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (metals, castings, machined components)
• Preferred: Master's degree in engineering or engineering management
• Understanding of waterworks products and industry standards is a plus
• Able to lift 50 pounds and work in an office and a plant where PPE is required

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks, Inventor or similar)
• Knowledge of casting processes, machining, coatings, assembly and inspection methods preferred
