Process Engineer I – BEOL Semiconductor Manufacturing

About the role

The Process Engineer I – BEOL will develop, qualify, optimize, and sustain back‑end‑of‑line (BEOL) semiconductor process modules in the MUSiC research and fabrication facility. Reporting to the CTO, the engineer will support silicon carbide device fabrication, research, prototyping, and low‑volume manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain robust, repeatable BEOL process modules, including backside processing, metallization, wafer thinning, dicing, and selected packaging processes.
• Support installation, startup, commissioning, and qualification of BEOL equipment; troubleshoot process and equipment issues.
• Document process specifications, standard operating procedures, and technical reports; analyze process data and implement statistical quality controls.
• Collaborate with process integration, equipment, facilities, quality, research personnel, industrial partners, and external suppliers.

Required profile

• B.S. in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering or related field.
• At least two years of semiconductor process engineering or related experience.
• U.S. citizenship required for access to controlled facilities.
• Experience preparing and maintaining process documentation, SOPs, and technical reports.

Required skills

• Semiconductor BEOL process development and optimization.
• Equipment qualification, startup, and troubleshooting.
• Root‑cause analysis of process variation or failure.
• Familiarity with ISO/semiconductor quality systems and controlled manufacturing environments.
