Probationary French Teacher (Grades 9‑12)

About the role

Scarsdale High School is seeking a probationary French teacher for the 2025‑26 academic year to instruct students in grades 9‑12. The successful candidate will develop students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities in French while fostering an appreciation of Francophone cultures.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging French language lessons aligned with district curriculum standards.
• Assess student progress and provide differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning styles.
• Collaborate with the High School Principal and World Language Department Chair on curriculum development.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment that supports both individual and small‑group instruction.
• Utilize data systems to analyze performance and inform instructional adjustments.

Required profile

• Native or near‑native proficiency in French.
• Valid New York State teaching certification for French.
• Strong commitment to student engagement and academic excellence.
• Effective communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Willingness to engage in self‑evaluation and professional growth.

Required skills

• Knowledge of current language‑teaching methodologies and differentiated instruction.
• Solid understanding of French grammar, vocabulary, literature, and cultural contexts.
• Familiarity with educational data analysis and action‑plan development.
• Awareness of applicable federal and state education laws.
• Proficiency with computer networks and standard software applications.
