Police Officer (Levels I‑IV)

About the role

The University Police Department at West Texas A&M University is seeking qualified individuals to serve as Police Officers (Levels I‑IV). You will provide law‑enforcement services to the campus community and surrounding areas, ensuring safety and security for students, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol WTAMU property and surrounding areas under existing mutual‑aid agreements.
• Respond to calls for service, conduct preliminary investigations, traffic enforcement, and arrests.
• Investigate accidents, serve warrants, and perform field identification at incident scenes.
• Provide foot patrol, building security, and non‑police community services as needed.
• Complete required in‑service training and maintain all necessary certifications.
• Maintain accurate reports using departmental computer systems.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• 0‑5 years of experience as a licensed Police Officer.
• Licensed Peace Officer in Texas with at least a TCOLE Basic certification.
• Valid Texas driver’s license (Class C) within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to qualify with department‑approved firearm.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work cooperatively.

Required skills

• Computer knowledge for reporting and training purposes.
