Physician Specialist – Forensic Psychiatry (Option D)

About the role

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery seeks a Physician Specialist (Option D) to serve as a staff psychiatrist at the Alton Mental Health Center, providing psychiatric care to forensic patients.

Key responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric services to patients in forensic units who are Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) or Unfit to Stand Trial (UST).
• Cover additional units when colleagues are absent, including emergency call response.
• Conduct examinations, make diagnoses, and treat patients as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Perform and document psychiatric evaluations and write reports.
• Prepare, attend, and provide testimony in court regarding involuntary commitment, fitness to proceed, and related matters.

Required profile

• Illinois medical license to practice Medicine – Psychiatry & Neurology (Special License).
• Authorization to work full‑time in the United States.
• Relevant education and certification; proof of licensure required.
• Ability to work in a union‑covered, full‑time position.
