Pharmacy Technician – Sterile Compounding (PRN)

About the role

The Pharmacy Technician – Sterile Compounding (PRN) supports pharmacists at Akron General Medical Center by preparing sterile IV medications and ensuring compliance with USP standards. This position works variable shifts (7:00 am‑3:30 pm or 3:00 pm‑11:30 pm) in a fast‑paced inpatient pharmacy environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist pharmacists with filling inpatient orders, documenting activities, and monitoring stock for outdated or expired medications.
• Compound sterile medications according to USP <795> and USP <797> regulations, including hazardous drug preparations.
• Restock automated dispensing cabinets, perform floor and stock checks, and complete Pharmacy Keeper activities and inspections.
• Prepare, deliver, and collect pharmacy items throughout the facility and answer telephone calls that do not require pharmacist judgment.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Successful completion of a pharmacy department training program covering USP <795> and USP <797> sterile compounding competencies.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
• Proficient typing skills and ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 20 lb regularly.

Required skills

• Knowledge of USP <795> and USP <797> sterile compounding standards.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
• Familiarity with automated dispensing systems such as Pyxis and Carousels.
• Use of Pharmacy Keeper or similar IV workflow software.
