Payroll, Benefits, FMLA, LOA & Transactions Representative

About the role

The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs seeks a detail‑oriented Human Resources Representative to support payroll, benefits, leave administration and related transactions at the Chicago Veterans’ Home. This full‑time, salaried position works within the HR Office and reports to the Lead Human Resources Specialist.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the agency payroll representative, handling complex payroll duties and providing technical support on state‑wide policies.
• Act as the benefits representative for CMS Group Insurance, State Employees Retirement System, deferred compensation and employment security.
• Assist the Central HR Hiring Unit with structured interviews, panel facilitation, and new‑employee documentation.
• Manage FMLA, LOA, workers’ compensation, classifications and hiring processes.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and ability to handle complex, specialized HR functions.
• Experience working in a government or large‑organization HR environment.
• Ability to interpret and apply state payroll and benefits policies.

Required skills

• Payroll processing and administration.
• Benefits coordination with CMS Group Insurance and state retirement systems.
• FMLA, LOA and workers’ compensation administration.
• Classification and hiring procedures, including interview facilitation.
