Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) – Med/Surg & Telemetry

About the role

The Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) works night shifts on the Med/Surg & Telemetry unit at Fairview Hospital, providing direct patient care under RN supervision. This position offers a pathway to advance nursing education and career growth within the Cleveland Clinic Health System.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with vital signs, personal care, activities of daily living, transfers, and transport.
• Perform pulse oximetry, point‑of‑care testing, dressing changes, apply external monitoring devices, and remove urinary Foley catheters.
• Report any abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to the RN and help maintain clean, orderly patient rooms.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or obtain during new‑hire period).
• Ability to read and comprehend at an eighth‑grade level.
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman, Combat Medic, or Medical Service Technician is considered.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) – preferred.
• Proficiency with pulse oximetry and point‑of‑care testing equipment.
• Competence in dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices, and urinary Foley catheter removal.
