Patient Care Nurse Assistant – Complex Medicine Unit

About the role

The Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) works on the 5th Floor Complex Medicine Unit at Marymount Hospital, providing direct patient care under RN supervision during day shifts (7:00 am – 7:30 pm). This 12‑bed telemetry unit serves adult medical‑surgical patients with multiple comorbidities.

Key responsibilities

• Take vital signs, weight, pulse oximetry and perform point‑of‑care testing.
• Assist patients with personal care, activities of daily living, transfers and transport.
• Perform dressing changes, apply external monitoring devices, and insert/remove urinary Foley catheters.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to the RN.
• Maintain clean and orderly patient rooms.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within the new‑hire period.
• Proficiency in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at a junior‑high level as measured by the employment assessment.
• Physical ability to lift and move patients, stand and walk for extended periods.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) credential (preferred).
• Knowledge of vital‑sign monitoring, point‑of‑care testing, and basic wound care.
• Ability to use personal protective equipment and follow standard precautions.
